Tykeem Hines of the Bronx entered a guilty plea to second-degree robbery, a class C violent felony, in connection with a January robbery. The incident stemmed from a fake sale via social media, according to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr.
County Court Judge Barry Warhit accepted the plea.
On Jan. 14, Hines committed a gunpoint robbery in an apartment on South 13th Avenue in Mount Vernon, according to the county D.A.'s Office.
Hines reportedly negotiated to sell a Moncler brand jacket to the victim over social media. Instead, when Hines met the victim for the sale, he brandished a gun inside the victim’s apartment and demanded money, according to court records.
At the time of the robbery, three adults and a 6-year-old child were in the apartment, police said.
Hines allegedly threatened to shoot the victims and stole money and a bracelet before fleeing from the apartment. As he ran from the scene, Hines threw an unloaded gun to the ground, which was recovered by Mount Vernon Police.
When the defendant appeared in Bronx Criminal Court on Feb. 27 on a separate, pending gun charge, Hines was arrested in connection with the January robbery, Scarpino said in his news statement.
Hines is due to be sent to state prison on Sept. 27. In accordance with Hines' plea agreement, he will receive a prison sentence of six years in.
The Gang and Firearms Unit of the county D.A.'s Investigations Division prosecuted the case.
